Meet coach Ellie

From gymnastics and figure skating to strength training, sport has always been a big part of Ellie’s life. Today, she brings that experience and her enthusiasm for coaching to Youth Strength Academy, helping young athletes develop their skills and grow in confidence.

A lifelong love of sport

Ellie trained in gymnastics for 10 years and has been figure skating for around nine years, a sport she still practises regularly. Along the way, she has also performed in seven ice pantomimes at Guildford Spectrum.

Her enthusiasm for the gym came just as quickly. During her very first session, she managed a 120 kg trap-bar deadlift and knew strength training was something she wanted to pursue. Four years of consistent training later, it remains a huge part of her life.

From athlete to coach

Ellie began coaching at 15, when her gymnastics club gave her the opportunity to become a coach. Over the following five years, she worked with gymnasts of all ages and abilities, developing a passion for helping others learn and progress.

Since then, she has gained qualifications as a Level 2 Fitness Instructor, Level 3 Personal Trainer and Level 4 Strength and Conditioning Coach. She is also a British Gymnastics Coach and holds Level 3 and Level 4 Sports Massage qualifications.

One of her proudest achievements was graduating from university with first-class honours in 2025.

Helping young athletes grow

At YSA, Ellie particularly enjoys working with young athletes and people with additional training needs. For her, one of the most rewarding parts of coaching is seeing someone develop their skills and become more confident in the gym.

She loves watching our youth athletes challenge themselves in each session, try new things and discover what they are capable of. Supporting that progress, from learning a movement to approaching training with greater confidence, is at the heart of what she enjoys about coaching.

Beyond the gym

Outside coaching and training, Ellie loves travelling and exploring new places. She is also a big music lover who enjoys going to concerts whenever she can, and a huge Formula 1 fan.

Whether she is on the ice, in the gym or coaching a session, Ellie’s enthusiasm for sport and helping others is a constant.
