Meet coach george
George brings experience across professional sport, university performance programmes and youth strength and conditioning to the Youth Strength Academy coaching team.
He began coaching in 2021 during a placement year at the University of Surrey, working with basketball, netball and other performance sports. He went on to complete an MSc in Strength and Conditioning at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, graduating in 2025.
Since then, George has coached athletes in basketball, netball, cricket and ice hockey, as well as performance teams and scholars at the University of Surrey. He now works with young athletes at both Youth Strength Academy and Wycombe Abbey School.
George also has a background in powerlifting coaching. He has helped several athletes reach national championships, including Billy, who set a sub-junior national bench press record with a 150 kg lift at just 18 years old and 72 kg bodyweight. It remains one of George’s proudest coaching moments. Another highlight was working alongside Rupe with the Guildford Flames as the team reached the Challenge Cup final in Sheffield.
George’s coaching approach
George uses current training research to guide his sessions while making them accessible and enjoyable for every athlete. He focuses on building strength, movement skills and physical qualities that carry across sports, helping young athletes prepare for the demands of training and competition.
Outside coaching, George follows the Washington Capitals in the NHL, although he has no plans to take up ice hockey himself. He has recently started playing golf, tennis and padel, and his own gym training includes powerlifting, Olympic lifting, sprinting, jumping and bodybuilding. Away from sport, he plays piano and guitar, both of which he has enjoyed for around 20 years.
